Bramble as an izi.TRAVEL alternative

izi.TRAVEL is free to publish, which is hard to argue with. The two things worth understanding before choosing it are where your content lives, and what happens to the price when your map gets busy.

Two weathered stone gate piers with no gates hung between them, a rusted hinge pin still set in the stone, a gravel drive running away between bare limes

izi.TRAVEL is a platform for publishing audio tours and museum guides, free to publish and distributed through its own app and website, with an Enterprise Partner Program priced from about €100 to €1,000 a month metered by how many people access the tours. Bramble is a GPS story map for outdoor grounds on your own domain: visitors scan a QR code, the map opens in their browser with no app, and stories unlock where the visitor stands. The self-managed subscription is a flat £1,500 a year or £150 a month plus VAT for one published map, whatever the visitor numbers.

izi.TRAVEL figures below are from its published Enterprise Partner Program, checked 5 September 2026. Check izi.travel for the current terms before relying on them.

Choose izi.TRAVEL, honestly, if

  • Budget is the binding constraint. Free is free, and no amount of argument beats it.
  • You want to be found by people browsing a directory of tours in a region.
  • Audio is the whole of your content and you are happy for it to live in their app.
  • Your visitor numbers are small enough that metering never bites, and you do not mind the platform's branding.

Questions

If izi.TRAVEL is free, why pay for Bramble?

Sometimes you should not. If the budget is nil and you are happy for the tour to live in someone else's app under their branding, free is the right answer. You are paying us for the map being yours, on your address, with no app in the way, and for a flat price that does not move when the map gets used.

What does 'metered by user access' actually mean?

izi.TRAVEL's Enterprise plans are priced by how many people access the tours each month, from roughly €100 a month at around 1,000 accesses to €1,000 a month at around 10,000. The cost rises as the tour succeeds. Bramble's price is flat per published map.

Can we move our content later?

From Bramble, yes: ask and we send an export of your stories, images and coordinates in a standard format, free, and we hold your web address for twelve months after a map goes offline so printed QR codes do not lead somewhere wrong.

Does Bramble have an app store listing?

No, deliberately. Almost nobody downloads an app for a single visit, which is the reason attraction apps so often go unused. A QR code and a browser is the whole of it.

Do you have izi.TRAVEL's reach?

No. It has a directory, an app and a large published catalogue, and Bramble has neither reach nor an install base. If being discovered by people browsing tours matters to you, that is a genuine point in its favour.

What Bramble costs

£1,500 a year, or £150 a month, plus VAT, for one published map, white-label. It is the same figure at a thousand visitors and at fifty thousand. Against a free tier that is a real cost, and the honest way to think about it is that you are buying a fixed number and your own web address rather than buying features.

Thirty days free before any of it, at portal.bramblemaps.com/start, with no card and about a minute of setting up. The map starts blank on purpose. Subscribe to the self-managed tier and there are thirty more days to change your mind with a full refund. The guarantee does not cover a done-for-you build, which is quoted and agreed before any work starts. Full pricing · what building it yourself involves.
