Bramble as a Smartify alternative
Smartify is the best-known name in this category and it is built for museums. If your collection is a landscape rather than a gallery, the whole comparison comes down to where the visitor is standing.
Smartify is a visitor-experience platform used by museums and galleries worldwide, offering audio tours, object recognition and a venue page inside its own app, on annual plans from £0 to £9,500. Bramble is a GPS story map for outdoor grounds: visitors scan a QR code, the map opens in their phone's browser with no app, and each story unlocks when they physically reach the place it belongs to. The self-managed subscription is £1,500 a year or £150 a month plus VAT for one published map, white-label, updated by the venue itself.
Smartify prices below are its published partner tiers, checked 5 September 2026. Check smartify.org for the current figures before relying on them.
Choose Smartify, honestly, if
- You are a museum or gallery and your content is objects rather than places.
- You need AI translation or several languages. Bramble does not offer it.
- You want to be discoverable inside an app visitors already have. That install base is real and Bramble has nothing like it.
- You want games, quizzes and badges, which Smartify includes from its Starter tier.
- You want a supplier with hundreds of institutional references. We have one live community trail.

Choose Bramble if
- Your visitors are walking outdoors and the point is where they are standing.
- You want the map on your own domain and under your own name, with no vendor crest, at £1,500 rather than £3,500.
- You want to change it yourself the week the garden changes, without asking anyone.
- You would rather nobody had to download anything.
Questions
Is Bramble cheaper than Smartify?
At the white-label tier, yes: £1,500 a year against Smartify's £3,500 Branded plan as published in September 2026. But Smartify's £1,800 Starter tier and its free tier undercut us for venues that do not need white-labelling, and its Premium and Bespoke tiers do things we do not do at all.
Does Bramble do audio tours?
Each stop can carry recorded narration, and on the done-for-you service we record it. What we do not have is Smartify's audio-tour tooling, its translation, or its games and quizzes.
Do visitors need the Smartify app to use Bramble?
No. Bramble has no app of any kind. A visitor scans a QR code and the map opens in whatever browser their phone already has.
Can we use both?
Yes, and for a property with both a house collection and grounds that can make sense: Smartify indoors for the objects, Bramble outdoors for the walk.
What does Bramble not do that Smartify does?
Multi-language and AI translation, object recognition, games and badges, 360 and WebXR, and discovery inside an existing consumer app. If any of those decide it for you, Smartify is the better answer.
What Bramble costs
£1,500 a year, or £150 a month, plus VAT, for one published map, white-label and with as many stops as you care to write. That is against Smartify's £3,500 Branded tier for the equivalent white-labelling, and above its £0 and £1,800 tiers, which do less but genuinely cost less.
You can have a map running before deciding anything: thirty days free at portal.bramblemaps.com/start, no card, about a minute to set up. It starts blank on purpose. Once you subscribe to the self-managed tier there are thirty more days to change your mind and get your money back. A done-for-you build is quoted and agreed before we start, and carries no guarantee. Full pricing · what building it yourself involves.
